April 22 2009, Newlands Capetown: Finally, there was no rain and the match started on time. The Weather was good, and the pitch good for batting. More like the Indian Sub-continent. The day belonged to Adam Gilchrist and Rohit Sharma who scored 123 between them off just 75 deliveries, 88 of them coming in boundaries. A chase of 185 was always going to be tough for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, They however put up a great fight under lights at Newlands courtesy Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli. Bangalore fell short of the target by just 24 runs as Deccan Chargers won two out of two. (more…)

The Rain gods continued to spray problems for the Season 2 of the Indian Premier League. Most of the matches played so far, have had rain interruptions, Match 7 a victim of a complete washout. Match 7 between the defending champions Rajasthan Royals and the Mumbai Indians was called-off two and half hours after the scheduled start of play.
This day turned out to be the worst as far as the spectators are concerned. The opening game of the Tuesday double-header between Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab was decided on Duckworth-Lewis hardly ten overs into the chase. Here’s hoping the rest of the tournament is no more rain affected. Rain rain stay away. Both teams shared a point each, Mumbai Indians now lead the pioints table with three points against their name.

April 19 2009, Capetown: They finished in the last spot last year, and what could have been a better series opener for them as the Deccan Chargers won their first match against the Kolkata Knight Riders. what was a mountain of expectation from Brendon Mccullum, after he scored 158 off 73 balls in season 1 opener, turned to be an easy climb for the Deccan chargers. They were outplayed in very department by the DC. It has been a weekend to savour for bowlers, and each member of Deccan’s attack did their bit to leave Kolkata scrambling to reach triple-digits. Herschelle Gibbs, coming off a triumphant series against Australia, and Rohit Sharma, back in the country where he made his name in 2007, then made sure Deccan’s campaign didn’t begin in the dismal way last season’s had. April 19 2009, CapeTown: Rain rain Go away, Come Again Another Day…. A poem that the spectators and the players had been singing for most part of the day. Day 2 of the IPL season 2 saw more rain showers and delays. When the rain finally stopped, The match was reduced to a 14 over affair between the sides. With Sehwag on one team, the Delhi Daredevils were favorites from the start.
Frequent showers ruined the first match of Sunday’s double-header in Cape Town, reducing the target required by Delhi Daredevils to only 54 in six overs, a goal they reached with all wickets intact. The victory, however, was set up by Daniel Vettori’s remarkable spell which brought an abrupt halt to Kings XI Punjab’s burgeoning momentum and gave Delhi a manageable target to chase. (more…)
