rahul-dravidApril 18 2009, Capetown South Africa: Last years Champions Rajasthan Royals find themselves at the bottom of the table after losing their opening match against the under-dogs, Bangalore Royal Challengers. After finishing 7th in the last year’s tournament, a determined and a new-look Royal Challenger team took center stage in their bright red-gold uniforms to create history by bowling out the Rajasthan Royals for the lowest total in world T20 history. It was the oldies that did the job for the Royal Challengers, first it was Rahul Dravid with the bat and then it was Anil Kumble with the ball. Vijay Mallaya couldn’t have asked for a better opening performance from the team than this one. (more…)

ms-sachinThe condition were different and demanded a completely different and orthodox batting style. If it was trashing all the way in the first match of IPL 2008, It was cautious and old fashioned shots that helped Mumbai Indians win the first match of IPL 2009. Mumbai Indians managed a good 19 run win over last time runner’s up, The Chennai Super Kings.

If it was the pacers from the CSK who bolwed well in the middle of the innings, it was spin twins Sanath Jayasuriya and Harbhajan Singh who won the match. The sun was shining and Capetown was ready to host the first match of the IPl in what was expected to be a carnival like atmosphere. (more…)

dcThey finished bottom last season but their moves this time don’t inspire much optimism. Deccan’s batting woes were well documented – Shahid Afridi, Herschelle Gibbs and Scott Styris failed to make an impact – but their bowling was the weakest in the competition. RP Singh was unable to repeat his ICC World Twenty20 heroics, while Chaminda Vaas and Nuwan Zoysa posed little threat. But this time, Deccan brought Fidel Edwards and another West Indian, the allrounder Dwayne Smith, having signed Australian allrounder Ryan Harris before the auction. (more…)

katrina-kaif-royal-challengersThe team which was out and out rejected to be T20 side, The Bangalore Royal Challengers now have a new look side that leaves no question marks about it being a test side anymore. With imports in the likes of Kevin Pietersen and Jesse Ryder, Bangalore Royal Challengers now have boosted their batting line up with the swap of Zaheer Khan to Robin Utthapa  with the Mumbai Indians. With a team now comprising of a mix of older and younger players, team Royal challengers may well live up to the name of the flamboyant owner Vijay Mallaya. preity_kings_xiLast year’s semi finalists and this year’s weakest looking side of the IPL, Kings XI Punjab have been named ‘underdogs’. The team to be most affected by the absence of their Australian players, Kings XI Punjab will be hoping that Yuvraj Singh stands out as the star amongst the galaxy of international cricketers playing this season. They were the last years entertainers, Shaun Marsh exploded with runs, Lee picked the wickets and Hopes played to the all rounders duty. Filling the shoes of these players is the task at hand for the team. (more…)

johan-botha-actionBotha may face further trouble after he was reported for false action by the ICC. Botha was cleared to have an abduction angle well below the limit set by the ICC. News reports suggest that a meeting between the ICC and the leading biochemists could mean the change of rules following his chucking allegations. Bruce Elliott, the University of Western Australia professor who last examined Botha’s action in 2006, said a bowler’s elbow flexion would no longer be assessed by taking an average reading over several overs, but rather on a one-strike-and-you’re-out basis. number-oneEver since October 2002, India raised to the second spot in the ICC one day rankings for the first time. This however does not come from team India’s performance in the recent past, It’s the downfall of the new-look Australian side losing to South Africa in the current series. India now stand in the second spot with 122 points. The 1-3 scoreline so far has pushed Australia to third place after being at the helm for 52 successive weeks while, the Proteas grabbed top spot having won seven out of nine ODIs played against Australia this year, with 127 points. kaif-axedIn times of recession when people are losing jobs, the Indian Premier League players were the only people on the planet being paid a lot more than what their real worth is. Of course that’s thanks to the majority of the population around the world, of which the majority is in India watch them play. Good or bad, T20 is entertainment and a tournament that is a mix of international and domestic cricketers makes it even more exciting.

Mohammed Kaif was purchased for a $675,000 at the IPL auction last year, but didn’t have much of a role during their victorious 2008 campaign. He played all the sixteen matches in season one and scored 176 runs at an average of 16, which is completely not any worth. Indian PremierLeague defending champions Rajasthan Royals were the first team to trim their team — axing seven players from their final squad for IPL-2 starting on April 18. (more…)
