The Chennai Super Kings are already termed hot favorites to win this season, while the Delhi Daredevils have been hinted as the side that could spell a few problems along CSK’s road. The match promised to be a big one and thanks to the weather that stayed clear, The spectators witnessed a Spectacle. 350 plus runs were scored in the match, AB develliers became the first man to score a hundred this season as Delhi edged past Super Kings by just 10 runs. csk-mathew-hayden20 April 2009, Port elizabeth, South Africa:Mathew Hayden, The Big New South Wales batsman, also ex-Australian cricketer stepped up to prove his buy for the Chennai Super Kings. In an innings of 65 off 43 balls Hayden murdered the Bangalore Royal challenger bowlers to take CSK to their first victory of the season, almost winning the match single handedly. His power hitting ensured that CSK reached a scre well out of the reach of the opposition as Muralitharan spinned a web around the RCB batsman to seal the deal for the Chennai Super Kings. In an almost one sided affair, Match 5 brought in some entertainment for the crowd. (more…)

ms-sachinThe condition were different and demanded a completely different and orthodox batting style. If it was trashing all the way in the first match of IPL 2008, It was cautious and old fashioned shots that helped Mumbai Indians win the first match of IPL 2009. Mumbai Indians managed a good 19 run win over last time runner’s up, The Chennai Super Kings.

If it was the pacers from the CSK who bolwed well in the middle of the innings, it was spin twins Sanath Jayasuriya and Harbhajan Singh who won the match. The sun was shining and Capetown was ready to host the first match of the IPl in what was expected to be a carnival like atmosphere. (more…)

Parthiv Patel and Suresh Raina struck fifties as Chennai Super Kings romped to a comfortable 41-run victory over South African domestic side Nashua Dolphins in a Twenty20 practice match here ahead of the Indian Premier League starting on Saturday.

Kings XI Punjab failed to score a stiff 19 off the last over as they lost to Chevrolet Warriors by 10 runs in their warm-up Twenty20 match ahead of the Indian Premier League second season.

ipl_logoIndian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi promised on Wednesday a non-stop carnival atmosphere at this year’s tournament in South Africa. At one point in time, The tournament stood chances off being scraped off for this year due to clashes between polls in India and the IPL dates. Modi took a quick decision and moved the tournament to South Africa much to the joy of Indian fans who now only have to wait two more days before the tournaments Kicks off on Saturday, April the 18th.

A team built around Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings now have a player by the name of Andrew Flintoff taking higher salary than the captain himself. Team Chennai Super Kings lost their only match of the tournament to end runners up in the inaugural season of the tournament. Mahendra Singh Dhoni who has already proven to be the best captain around the world, will be aiming for one better performance from the players to have his hands around the IPL trophy this year. Many Australian players have decided to withdraw from this year’s IPL, one who has lately joined the list is Micheal Hussey. He will not participate this year in an effort to regain lost form before the Ashes. Hussey is one of only two Australians, along with Brad Haddin, to have played in all 12 Tests and 10 one-day internationals since last year’s tour of India, and was due to join the Chennai Super Kings after the limited-overs series against Pakistan next month. He has now decided to take a breather spending time with family in perth. (more…)

WanderersFinally, The schedule of the IPL Season 2 is out and for everyone to see. All eight IPL franchises will play at least half their matches in Durban, Cape Town and Centurion, where they hope to have significant crowd support from the sizeable Indian-origin population, according to the official tournament schedule that was released on Friday night. The opening double-header in Cape Town on April 18 – Mumbai Indians v Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals v Bangalore Royal Challengers – will feature at least nine South African players, including Graeme Smith, the South Africa captain, in a calculated attempt to spark local interest in what is essentially an Indian domestic event.
