rajasthan-royals-yusufApril 24,2009 Newlnds Capetown: Kolkatta Knight Riders set a target of 16 for the Rajasthan Royals who won the match off with 2 balls to spare. Yusuf Pathan hit 2 sixes and a boundary in his valiant 18 that brought Rajasthan Royals the first valid 2 points in the IPL. The players shaked hands as Ganguly left the field disappointed following his team’s decision to bowl Ajantha Mendis. Confused? This could well be called the final result of the match. Rajasthan Royals won their first match of the season in what is called the ‘Super over’ rule. Both teams were tied at a score of 150 at the end of their 20 overs. Read on to find out what is Super Over and how it all fared. (more…)

gilchrist-deccan-chargersApril 22 2009, Newlands Capetown: Finally, there was no rain and the match started on time. The Weather was good, and the pitch good for batting. More like the Indian Sub-continent. The day belonged to Adam Gilchrist and Rohit Sharma who scored 123 between them off just 75 deliveries, 88 of them coming in boundaries. A chase of 185 was always going to be tough for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, They however put up a great fight under lights at Newlands courtesy Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli. Bangalore fell short of the target by just 24 runs as Deccan Chargers won two out of two. (more…)

rainThe Rain gods continued to spray problems for the Season 2 of the Indian Premier League. Most of the matches played so far, have had rain interruptions, Match 7 a victim of a complete washout. Match 7 between the defending champions Rajasthan Royals and the Mumbai Indians was called-off two and half hours after the scheduled start of play.

This day turned out to be the worst as far as the spectators are concerned.  The opening game of the Tuesday double-header between Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab was decided on Duckworth-Lewis hardly ten overs into the chase. Here’s hoping the rest of the tournament is no more rain affected. Rain rain stay away. Both teams shared a point each, Mumbai Indians now lead the pioints table with three points against their name.

saurav-kkrNot the best of the win’s as Shah Rukh Khan may call it, but the man is happy for Kolkatta Knight Riders won their second match against the  Kings XI Punjab to register their first points in the tournament. Sourav Ganguly made yet another comeback with the ball as he picked up 2 wickets to help restrict KXIP to a score of 158 for 6. Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum scored quick runs before rain stopped play with KKR 11 runs over the Duckworth Lewis par score. (more…)

rp-singh-deccan-chargersApril 19 2009, Capetown: They finished in the last spot last year, and what could have been a better series opener for them as the Deccan Chargers won their first match against the Kolkata Knight Riders. what was a mountain of expectation from Brendon Mccullum, after he scored 158 off 73 balls in season 1 opener, turned to be an easy climb for the Deccan chargers. They were outplayed in very department by the DC. It has been a weekend to savour for bowlers, and each member of Deccan’s attack did their bit to leave Kolkata scrambling to reach triple-digits. Herschelle Gibbs, coming off a triumphant series against Australia, and Rohit Sharma, back in the country where he made his name in 2007, then made sure Deccan’s campaign didn’t begin in the dismal way last season’s had. rahul-dravidApril 18 2009, Capetown South Africa: Last years Champions Rajasthan Royals find themselves at the bottom of the table after losing their opening match against the under-dogs, Bangalore Royal Challengers. After finishing 7th in the last year’s tournament, a determined and a new-look Royal Challenger team took center stage in their bright red-gold uniforms to create history by bowling out the Rajasthan Royals for the lowest total in world T20 history. It was the oldies that did the job for the Royal Challengers, first it was Rahul Dravid with the bat and then it was Anil Kumble with the ball. Vijay Mallaya couldn’t have asked for a better opening performance from the team than this one. (more…)

dcThey finished bottom last season but their moves this time don’t inspire much optimism. Deccan’s batting woes were well documented – Shahid Afridi, Herschelle Gibbs and Scott Styris failed to make an impact – but their bowling was the weakest in the competition. RP Singh was unable to repeat his ICC World Twenty20 heroics, while Chaminda Vaas and Nuwan Zoysa posed little threat. But this time, Deccan brought Fidel Edwards and another West Indian, the allrounder Dwayne Smith, having signed Australian allrounder Ryan Harris before the auction. (more…)

kkrKKR may be the team to look out this season. Controversy, drama, action and Shah Rukh Khan always seek your attention. Going by the recent news report, KKR has decided on Brendon McCullum to e the captain in-charge for full length of the tournament. Talking about the man, He’s the big boost for Kolkatta and his explosive batting style for the full length could well mean that the South African crowd will get to see another T20 century in fastest time. katrina-kaif-royal-challengersThe team which was out and out rejected to be T20 side, The Bangalore Royal Challengers now have a new look side that leaves no question marks about it being a test side anymore. With imports in the likes of Kevin Pietersen and Jesse Ryder, Bangalore Royal Challengers now have boosted their batting line up with the swap of Zaheer Khan to Robin Utthapa  with the Mumbai Indians. With a team now comprising of a mix of older and younger players, team Royal challengers may well live up to the name of the flamboyant owner Vijay Mallaya. It may also finally help bring smile on their ambassador from bollywood, Katrina Kaif, who remained silent most through out the last season. (more…)

preity_kings_xiLast year’s semi finalists and this year’s weakest looking side of the IPL, Kings XI Punjab have been named ‘underdogs’. The team to be most affected by the absence of their Australian players, Kings XI Punjab will be hoping that Yuvraj Singh stands out as the star amongst the galaxy of international cricketers playing this season. They were the last years entertainers, Shaun Marsh exploded with runs, Lee picked the wickets and Hopes played to the all rounders duty. Filling the shoes of these players is the task at hand for the team. (more…)
