gilchrist-deccan-chargersApril 22 2009, Newlands Capetown: Finally, there was no rain and the match started on time. The Weather was good, and the pitch good for batting. More like the Indian Sub-continent. The day belonged to Adam Gilchrist and Rohit Sharma who scored 123 between them off just 75 deliveries, 88 of them coming in boundaries. A chase of 185 was always going to be tough for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, They however put up a great fight under lights at Newlands courtesy Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli. Bangalore fell short of the target by just 24 runs as Deccan Chargers won two out of two. (more…)

rainThe Rain gods continued to spray problems for the Season 2 of the Indian Premier League. Most of the matches played so far, have had rain interruptions, Match 7 a victim of a complete washout. Match 7 between the defending champions Rajasthan Royals and the Mumbai Indians was called-off two and half hours after the scheduled start of play.

This day turned out to be the worst as far as the spectators are concerned.  The opening game of the Tuesday double-header between Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab was decided on Duckworth-Lewis hardly ten overs into the chase. Here’s hoping the rest of the tournament is no more rain affected. Rain rain stay away. Both teams shared a point each, Mumbai Indians now lead the pioints table with three points against their name.

rp-singh-deccan-chargersApril 19 2009, Capetown: They finished in the last spot last year, and what could have been a better series opener for them as the Deccan Chargers won their first match against the Kolkata Knight Riders. what was a mountain of expectation from Brendon Mccullum, after he scored 158 off 73 balls in season 1 opener, turned to be an easy climb for the Deccan chargers. They were outplayed in very department by the DC. It has been a weekend to savour for bowlers, and each member of Deccan’s attack did their bit to leave Kolkata scrambling to reach triple-digits. Herschelle Gibbs, coming off a triumphant series against Australia, and Rohit Sharma, back in the country where he made his name in 2007, then made sure Deccan’s campaign didn’t begin in the dismal way last season’s had. rahul-dravidApril 18 2009, Capetown South Africa: Last years Champions Rajasthan Royals find themselves at the bottom of the table after losing their opening match against the under-dogs, Bangalore Royal Challengers. After finishing 7th in the last year’s tournament, a determined and a new-look Royal Challenger team took center stage in their bright red-gold uniforms to create history by bowling out the Rajasthan Royals for the lowest total in world T20 history. It was the oldies that did the job for the Royal Challengers, first it was Rahul Dravid with the bat and then it was Anil Kumble with the ball. Vijay Mallaya couldn’t have asked for a better opening performance from the team than this one. (more…)

kaif-axedIn times of recession when people are losing jobs, the Indian Premier League players were the only people on the planet being paid a lot more than what their real worth is. Of course that’s thanks to the majority of the population around the world, of which the majority is in India watch them play. Good or bad, T20 is entertainment and a tournament that is a mix of international and domestic cricketers makes it even more exciting.

Mohammed Kaif was purchased for a $675,000 at the IPL auction last year, but didn’t have much of a role during their victorious 2008 campaign. He played all the sixteen matches in season one and scored 176 runs at an average of 16, which is completely not any worth. Indian PremierLeague defending champions Rajasthan Royals were the first team to trim their team — axing seven players from their final squad for IPL-2 starting on April 18. (more…)

Delhi may now no longer have the services of their Pakistani duo in the name of Shaoib Malik and Mohammed Asif, but the team looks even more dangerous after their imports in the likes of Australian opening batsman David Warner and the England Duo of Owais Shah and Paul Collingwood.Warners sensation T20 debut for Australia against South Africa proved his worth for the Delhi daredevils side. Having played these games in South Africa might help his cause. Delhi also have all rounder Allan McDonald, who too debuted for Australia in the recent T20 matches, and left-arm fast bowler Dirk Nannes, an out-and-out Twenty20 specialist. (more…)
