rainThe Rain gods continued to spray problems for the Season 2 of the Indian Premier League. Most of the matches played so far, have had rain interruptions, Match 7 a victim of a complete washout. Match 7 between the defending champions Rajasthan Royals and the Mumbai Indians was called-off two and half hours after the scheduled start of play.

This day turned out to be the worst as far as the spectators are concerned.  The opening game of the Tuesday double-header between Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab was decided on Duckworth-Lewis hardly ten overs into the chase. Here’s hoping the rest of the tournament is no more rain affected. Rain rain stay away. Both teams shared a point each, Mumbai Indians now lead the pioints table with three points against their name.

rahul-dravidApril 18 2009, Capetown South Africa: Last years Champions Rajasthan Royals find themselves at the bottom of the table after losing their opening match against the under-dogs, Bangalore Royal Challengers. After finishing 7th in the last year’s tournament, a determined and a new-look Royal Challenger team took center stage in their bright red-gold uniforms to create history by bowling out the Rajasthan Royals for the lowest total in world T20 history. It was the oldies that did the job for the Royal Challengers, first it was Rahul Dravid with the bat and then it was Anil Kumble with the ball. Vijay Mallaya couldn’t have asked for a better opening performance from the team than this one. (more…)

kaif-axedIn times of recession when people are losing jobs, the Indian Premier League players were the only people on the planet being paid a lot more than what their real worth is. Of course that’s thanks to the majority of the population around the world, of which the majority is in India watch them play. Good or bad, T20 is entertainment and a tournament that is a mix of international and domestic cricketers makes it even more exciting.

Mohammed Kaif was purchased for a $675,000 at the IPL auction last year, but didn’t have much of a role during their victorious 2008 campaign. He played all the sixteen matches in season one and scored 176 runs at an average of 16, which is completely not any worth. Indian PremierLeague defending champions Rajasthan Royals were the first team to trim their team — axing seven players from their final squad for IPL-2 starting on April 18. (more…)

Rajasthan Royals and Captain Shane Warne lost the first of the two T20 warm-up matches against the Cape Cobras by 28 runs. If there is one thing that Captian Warne would be regretting is the absence of his stars, Shane Watson and Sohail Tanvir. The Cobras fielded a new look side of what is normally a star studded side, which includes the likes of Gibbs and Morkel brothers. The cobras have been rated as the top T20 side in South Africa. Cobras won the toss and batted first. Much to Warne’s likeliness the cobras lost early wickets, at one point 30 for 3. For the Royals it was kamran Khan a new addition to the 27 member Rajasthan royals squad. Kamran khan,18, rattled a few stumps with his slinging action and surprise pace. (more…)
