rainThe Rain gods continued to spray problems for the Season 2 of the Indian Premier League. Most of the matches played so far, have had rain interruptions, Match 7 a victim of a complete washout. Match 7 between the defending champions Rajasthan Royals and the Mumbai Indians was called-off two and half hours after the scheduled start of play.

This day turned out to be the worst as far as the spectators are concerned.  The opening game of the Tuesday double-header between Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab was decided on Duckworth-Lewis hardly ten overs into the chase. Here’s hoping the rest of the tournament is no more rain affected. Rain rain stay away. Both teams shared a point each, Mumbai Indians now lead the pioints table with three points against their name.

ms-sachinThe condition were different and demanded a completely different and orthodox batting style. If it was trashing all the way in the first match of IPL 2008, It was cautious and old fashioned shots that helped Mumbai Indians win the first match of IPL 2009. Mumbai Indians managed a good 19 run win over last time runner’s up, The Chennai Super Kings.

If it was the pacers from the CSK who bolwed well in the middle of the innings, it was spin twins Sanath Jayasuriya and Harbhajan Singh who won the match. The sun was shining and Capetown was ready to host the first match of the IPl in what was expected to be a carnival like atmosphere. (more…)

Five Indians make it to the list of 11 test cricketers in the WISDEN TEST XI FOR 2008. When i read the news story in the news papers this morning, I was happy to see the inclusion of five Indians but had to raise a few eyebrows about the selection of few other players. Taking a look at the team for the second time makes me realize that the selection is based on the batting order in which they line up. Each one of them has been the best in the world throughout the year 2008 for their respective teams.. Read on as we discuss the team and the players.. (more…)

Harbhajan, with 16 wickets, ended as the highest wicket-taker in the series. 41 years after a Indian side won a test series in New Zealand, Dhoni and his men have successfully put records on their back and have rewritten history by winning the current series against New Zealand 1-0. It could easily have been 2-0 if the last session wouldn’t have been washed out by rain. No more a few drops of rain, it’s certainly become a drizzle. The umpires signaled the groundsmen to get into their job and the players start walking off. Vettori walked off the field with a sigh of relief on his face as the Indian players looked reluctantly at the sky. (more…)

India lead the three match Test Series 1-0, and would be looking to seal-the-deal in the second test match to help give the big stars some rest and give chances to players like Rohit Sharma and Praveen Kumar.
