csk-mathew-hayden20 April 2009, Port elizabeth, South Africa:Mathew Hayden, The Big New South Wales batsman, also ex-Australian cricketer stepped up to prove his buy for the Chennai Super Kings. In an innings of 65 off 43 balls Hayden murdered the Bangalore Royal challenger bowlers to take CSK to their first victory of the season, almost winning the match single handedly. His power hitting ensured that CSK reached a scre well out of the reach of the opposition as Muralitharan spinned a web around the RCB batsman to seal the deal for the Chennai Super Kings. In an almost one sided affair, Match 5 brought in some entertainment for the crowd. (more…)

rp-singh-deccan-chargersApril 19 2009, Capetown: They finished in the last spot last year, and what could have been a better series opener for them as the Deccan Chargers won their first match against the Kolkata Knight Riders. what was a mountain of expectation from Brendon Mccullum, after he scored 158 off 73 balls in season 1 opener, turned to be an easy climb for the Deccan chargers. They were outplayed in very department by the DC. It has been a weekend to savour for bowlers, and each member of Deccan’s attack did their bit to leave Kolkata scrambling to reach triple-digits. Herschelle Gibbs, coming off a triumphant series against Australia, and Rohit Sharma, back in the country where he made his name in 2007, then made sure Deccan’s campaign didn’t begin in the dismal way last season’s had. ms-sachinThe condition were different and demanded a completely different and orthodox batting style. If it was trashing all the way in the first match of IPL 2008, It was cautious and old fashioned shots that helped Mumbai Indians win the first match of IPL 2009. Mumbai Indians managed a good 19 run win over last time runner’s up, The Chennai Super Kings.

If it was the pacers from the CSK who bolwed well in the middle of the innings, it was spin twins Sanath Jayasuriya and Harbhajan Singh who won the match. The sun was shining and Capetown was ready to host the first match of the IPl in what was expected to be a carnival like atmosphere. (more…)

dcThey finished bottom last season but their moves this time don’t inspire much optimism. Deccan’s batting woes were well documented – Shahid Afridi, Herschelle Gibbs and Scott Styris failed to make an impact – but their bowling was the weakest in the competition. RP Singh was unable to repeat his ICC World Twenty20 heroics, while Chaminda Vaas and Nuwan Zoysa posed little threat. But this time, Deccan brought Fidel Edwards and another West Indian, the allrounder Dwayne Smith, having signed Australian allrounder Ryan Harris before the auction. (more…)

South Africa powered to yet another victory after they beat the touring Australians by 25 runs in the third match of the five match one day series. South Africa now lead the series 2-1. Earlier South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first on what looked like a slow and dry wicket. Australian quickies made a good start as they restricted Smith and Gibbs from scoring big runs. The first South African wicket came at the expense of Smith in the 7th over caught behind to Johnson. South Africa were 28-1 in 6.2 overs. (more…)

“Of course it is a bit disappointing not to win this Test,” captain MS Dhoni said. India’s disappointment was evident at not winning the Test, despite a charismatic spell of legspin bowling from Sachin Tendulkar, who combined really well with Harbhajan Singh. Harbhajan, with 16 wickets, ended as the highest wicket-taker in the series. The smiles on the faces of the seniors said it all, “I have come here 3 times and I’m happy we finally won” said Rahul Dravid. (more…)

41 years after a Indian side won a test series in New Zealand, Dhoni and his men have successfully put records on their back and have rewritten history by winning the current series against New Zealand 1-0. It could easily have been 2-0 if the last session wouldn’t have been washed out by rain. No more a few drops of rain, it’s certainly become a drizzle. The umpires signaled the groundsmen to get into their job and the players start walking off. Vettori walked off the field with a sigh of relief on his face as the Indian players looked reluctantly at the sky. (more…)
